Assessment

Assessment modes can be varied.

 Summative / formative. Planned / opportunistic. Structured / heuristic. Mandatory / optional .

 A 3 month rotation is all too brief and cannot be expected to be comprehensive.

 Examples that the GP Trainer can utilize for learning /assessment include:

  • Curriculum.
  • Random case analysis.
  • Simulation / role play.
  • Case based discussion (CBD).
  • PUNS & DENS. 
  • Hot seating.-seeing patients and reviewing with supervisor.
  • Feedback - patient, staff, intern and GP - both ways!
  • Direct observation of skills.
  • Intern presentation.

These can also be added to Portfolio of Learning ( Imokilly Medical Centre example)
