Role of Placement Coordinator / GP Mentor

- Advocate intern’s training.
- Be interested and enthusiastic about teaching.
- Be a good role model and demonstrate commitment to the development of the profession.
- Basic introduction to “ The Consultation” styles.
Duties of GP Mentor.
- Provide orientation to the practice ensuring that the intern is introduced to all members of staff and the stage of training and responsibilities of the intern is known by all.
- A formal induction should be offered - see Induction Book template
- Be aware of the location of educational resources – NMIC, Hot Topics, Red Whale, GP Notebook, UpDate, D&TB.
- Provide supervision to the intern at a level appropriate to their level of training. Medical intern should not take the principal responsibility of any individual patient.
- Clinical supervisor (or accepted delegated GP) must be physically present in workplace whilst the intern is providing clinical care.
- The Clinical Supervisor will provide education and training of intern including ethical issues & career guidance.
